Tatoo Removal Process

Consultation is the first step in all procedures. The patient must schedule an initial appointment so that the tatoo can be evaluated. Its size, shape, color, location and origin (whether the tatoo was done by a professional or an amateur) will all factor into the final price of the removal procedure.

Tatoo removal is performed in the office. When the patient arrives for the scheduled treatment, a topical anesthetic cream is applied to the skin surrounding the tatoo. Once the cream has taken effect, the patient moves to the laser room, where he or she is given protective eye wear that must be worn throughout the removal process.

The anesthetic cream is wiped off. The doctor selects the appropriate wavelength setting, prepares the laser, and draws it over the tatoo. The laser’s wavelengths are transmitted through the epidermal lining of the skin and absorbed by the ink chromophores, which are then broken down. The body can then dispose of the ink naturally.

After the procedure, doctor apply an antibiotic ointment. The bandage must be left in place for 24 hours following the procedure. The patient is given detailed instructions about how to care for the treated area, then is free to resume his or her normal activities.
